Next-Gen Server Administration & InfraOps
Cloud Cost Optimization
Cloud bills grow quietly through idle resources, over-provisioned instances, and forgotten environments. Cost optimization is continuous rightsizing, scheduling, and architectural review, not a one-time audit.
Ključne točke
- Tag every resource with owner, environment, and purpose for accountability.
- Rightsize instances based on actual utilization, not peak guesses.
- Schedule non-production environments to stop outside business hours.
- Use reserved or committed pricing only after usage patterns stabilize.
- Delete orphaned volumes, snapshots, and unused IPs monthly.
- Review egress and data-transfer costs, they often dominate.
- Set budgets and alerts per team and enforce them.
- Automate cost reports and review them in engineering meetings.
Pogosta vprašanja
Will cost cutting hurt performance?
Not if based on data. Rightsizing to real usage keeps headroom intact.
How often should we review costs?
Monthly at minimum, with automated alerts for anomalies in between.
Reserved instances or savings plans?
Match to workload stability. Start small and expand as patterns prove out.
Who owns cloud cost?
Engineering plus finance together. Shared ownership prevents blame and drift.
