Edge Database Replication and CRDTs
Edge databases replicate data to locations close to users for low latency, which forces a choice between strong consistency (slow, coordinated) and eventual consistency (fast, conflict-prone). Conflict-free Replicated Data Types (CRDTs) make eventual consistency safe by construction: concurrent edits merge deterministically without coordination. The result is fast local reads and writes with automatic conflict resolution, at the cost of a constrained data model.
